How it works

Back a local business in four steps

Put your money to work on your own block — and earn it back.

  1. 1

    Browse local businesses

Discover vetted brick-and-mortar businesses raising in your community.

  2. 2

    Back a Revenue-Share Note

Commit an amount and lock in the note's fixed return multiple.

  3. 3

    Funds held in escrow

Your commitment is routed to a third-party escrow, never to us.

  4. 4

    Earn your multiple from revenue

Get pro-rata monthly payouts until you reach the note's full return.

Frequently asked questions.

A community investing platform that lets local people help fund local businesses through simple revenue-share notes, and share in their growth.

You invest today, and the business repays a fixed total, 1.2 to 1.5 times your investment, from a set share of its monthly revenue until it is fully repaid. For example, at a 1.3 multiple, a $100 investment is repaid as $130 over time.

A fixed multiple, not a guaranteed rate. For example, $100 at a 1.3 multiple returns $130 in total, and $500 at a 1.4 multiple returns $700. How quickly you are repaid depends on the business's revenue, so your effective annual return varies. Returns are never guaranteed.

No. You are not buying a stake in the business. A revenue-share note is a promise to repay you from revenue, not ownership.

You can lose some or all of what you invest. These are not bank deposits: not FDIC insured and not guaranteed. Slow months stretch the timeline, and a business that cannot recover may not repay in full.

A slow month just means a longer wait, not a loss. A true default can mean partial or total loss, since the notes are unsecured. We show a business's status honestly the whole way through.

Not yet. InvestLocal is in a pre-license preview. Everything you see is simulated and non-binding while we complete the registrations required to handle real investments. No real money moves today.

We are building toward the SEC and FINRA registrations required to operate as a funding portal. Until that is in place, the site is a preview.

Through modest fees on successful raises, never from your returns.
